Meet MassMedia's Thought Leaders

- Throughout your career, what types of events
have you been involved in?
Most of my event experience has been in the
gaming and hospitality industry. I've coordinated
a wide variety of events, including VIP parties
and player dinners, private viewing parties,
restaurant promotions, happy hours, radio
remotes and even cooking demonstrations in
front of a live studio audience. At MassMedia, I
draw on my past experiences to determine the
best strategy for my clients and to ensure their
events are a success.
- When planning an event, what tips are
important for a client to keep in mind?
It's important to identify a leader and one key person the event team can
defer to when there's a question. This person should be extremely
organized and detail oriented. It's easy for the small details to fall through
the cracks and you don't want to be caught unprepared the day of the
event. It's also important to use preferred vendors for catering, rentals,
flowers and any other items you might need for your event. If you haven't
used a company before, ask colleagues or friends for a referral so you
know you're working with trusted partners who will properly
execute your event.
- How do you measure the success of an event?
It's important to ask yourself why you're hosting the event and what you
hope to gain from it. If you have a clear understanding of what you want to
accomplish, you can set measurable goals and map out a plan for how
to make it happen. Whether you want to raise money for a charity or throw
a holiday party for your employees, you know your event is a success
when you've achieved the goals you've set forth, whatever those might be.
- What has been your favorite event to plan and why?
At MassMedia, we were tasked with the rebranding and launch of a
retail project that is located across from the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
The rebranding initiatives included a new name, logo and the design of a
property flyer and marketing collateral. We were also responsible for
planning a luncheon to debut the center to the Las Vegas brokerage
community. I really enjoyed this project because we handled every aspect
from start to finish, and the event was the culmination of a lot of hard
work. In the end, the event was a success and our client was thrilled with
the turnout.
- What was the most challenging event you have had to plan? What
made it challenging and what was the end result?
When I worked for the M Resort, I coordinated many of the events at
Studio B, which is a private cooking and TV production studio inside the
buffet. We hosted cooking demonstrations with resident and guest chefs
as well as live radio remotes with local and nationally syndicated shows in
front of live audiences of 50 people. The live studio audience allowed little
room for error and we sometimes hosted three shows in one day, so I had
to adhere to a strict schedule to keep everything moving. Although these
events were challenging, I really enjoyed them because I was able to work
with a wide variety of people, the shows were dynamic and engaging and
we always received great feedback from our guests.
